The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is looking to expand the roster of Progressive Control Pathway for foot-and-mouth disease (PCP-FMD) Support Officers (PSOs).
PSOs are experts in the progressive control of FMD and/or other transboundary animal diseases, appointed by the Global Framework for the Progressive Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs) FMD Working Group to assist the veterinary services to progress along the PCP-FMD. The PSO system has been widely acknowledged by the GF-TADs as a pivotal initiative to sustain the Global FMD Control Strategy.
Selected candidates will have the opportunity to participate in an upcoming virtual training workshop and receive mentoring from international experts in FMD.

Candidates will be assessed against the following:
Essential criteria
- Veterinarian with relevant experience in ruminants’ disease control in one or more countries of Eastern Africa, Central Africa, West Africa, North Africa, South Asia;
- Not employed full-time by their government;
- Working knowledge of English or French;
- Access to internet for training and follow-up meetings (via video conferences);
- Availability for PSO duties approximately two days per month for the next 6-12 months (until the end of 2024).
Preferred criteria
- Experience with FMD and/or lumpy skin disease;
- Post-graduate training in virology, epidemiology, vaccinology, and/or animal health economics.
