Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Germany (VSF Germany) is recruiting a Project Manager for its South Sudan Country Programme.

The position will be based in Fangak County, South Sudan, with frequent travel to Pigi/Canal. This is an international position, fully field-based, with an expected start date of 1 August 2026. The contract duration is 12 months, renewable depending on performance.

VSF Germany is a non-governmental, non-profit international organisation working in veterinary relief and development. Its work supports pastoralists and vulnerable communities through animal health, agriculture, marketing, food safety, food security and livelihood-strengthening interventions.

Key Responsibilities

The Project Manager will be responsible for the planning, management, monitoring and implementation of project activities in South Sudan.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that project implementation is aligned with the approved work plan and budget;
  • Ensuring compliance with donor and government regulations;
  • Managing the project budget and monitoring expenditure;
  • Developing work plans, financial projections and project reports;
  • Coordinating technical and financial reporting for internal and donor requirements;
  • Supporting internal and external monitoring and evaluation activities;
  • Managing the project team and providing guidance across implementation components;
  • Liaising with GFFO, HELP Germany, local government stakeholders and community governance structures;
  • Conducting needs assessments in areas of intervention;
  • Promoting accountability to affected populations, Do No Harm principles and community feedback mechanisms;
  • Representing VSF Germany and the GFFO project in relevant forums and coordination platforms;
  • Documenting best practices, lessons learned and human-interest stories;
  • Contributing to proposal development and field-based data collection.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or a Master’s degree in Animal Science, Food Security and Livelihoods, or a related field;
  • At least 8 years of experience in project management, preferably in food security, livestock and emergency response programmes in conflict or post-conflict settings;
  • At least 1–2 years of international experience in programme or project management in conflict-prone and pastoralist environments, preferably in South Sudan or the Horn of Africa;
  • Experience implementing market systems development approaches for animal health interventions;
  • Proven leadership and multi-stakeholder project management experience;
  • Familiarity with GFFO-funded projects;
  • Strong knowledge of LEGS standards and community-based animal health;
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English;
  • Ability to work in remote and insecure environments;
  • Commitment to teamwork, gender equality, participatory approaches and sustainable development.

Knowledge of local languages will be an added advantage.
