Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Germany (VSF Germany) is recruiting a Project Officer – Food Security and Livelihoods for its South Sudan Country Programme.
The position is based in Fangak County, Jonglei State, South Sudan, with frequent field travel to Pigi/Canal. This is a national position, with an expected start date of 1 August 2026. The contract duration is 12 months, renewable depending on performance.
VSF Germany is a non-governmental, non-profit international organisation working in veterinary relief and development. The organisation supports pastoralists and vulnerable communities through animal health, agriculture, marketing, food safety, food security and livelihood-strengthening interventions.

Key Responsibilities
The Project Officer will support the implementation of the Sudan Crisis Regional Life-Saving Response (SCRLR) in Fangak and Pigi/Canal Counties of Jonglei State.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting food security and livelihoods interventions targeting vulnerable households;
- Contributing to agriculture, animal health services, fisheries and multipurpose cash support activities;
- Supporting the establishment of county and Payam-level committees;
- Facilitating awareness sessions on project activities, protection principles and GBV-related issues;
- Participating in beneficiary targeting and household selection;
- Supporting detailed implementation planning with staff, partners and stakeholders;
- Ensuring project activities are implemented according to the work plan;
- Participating in project activity and budget planning;
- Leading implementation, monitoring, follow-up and evaluation at Payam level;
- Documenting community meetings, seminars, workshops, achievements and lessons learned;
- Supporting monthly, quarterly, midterm and annual reporting;
- Liaising with government institutions, NGO partners, CBOs and local stakeholders;
- Supporting beneficiary identification, documentation and record keeping;
- Facilitating trainings, workshops and experience-sharing activities for beneficiaries and government line departments.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have:
- A university degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Food Security and Livelihoods, Agriculture, Pastoralism, or a related field;
- At least five years of practical experience implementing livestock health, agriculture and multipurpose cash interventions with NGOs;
- At least two years of relevant experience with international NGOs, preferably in the Greater Upper Nile Region;
- Familiarity with GFFO Emergency Response frameworks;
- Analytical skills for market analysis;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Fluency in English;
- Fluency in local languages;
- Field experience in South Sudan or similar contexts.
Local candidates are preferred, as the position does not include accommodation or transport allowance in Fangak or Pigi/Canal.
