African Union- InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) is a specialized technical office of the Africa Union Commission (AUC) whose mandate is to support and coordinate the sustainable development and utilization of animal resources to enhance nutrition and food security and to contribute to the wellbeing and prosperity of people in the Member States of Africa Union (AU). Among its many achievements has been the successful coordination of the eradication of rinderpest (cattle plague) leading to global eradication of the disease. Following the global eradication of rinderpest, Member States intensified the focus on peste des petits ruminants (PPR) as the next livestock disease for eradication from Africa and worldwide by the year 2030.
The Pan African PPR eradication programme (2023-2027), developed under GF-TADs Africa umbrella is aligned to the Global PPR Eradication Program (GEP) developed by FAO and WOAH; the two organizations that are leading the global eradication worldwide.
