JOB GROUP ‘CPSB 04’ (Q), ONE (1) POST

Requirements for Promotion

For promotion to this grade, an officer must:-

  1. Have served in the grade of Assistant Director of Veterinary Services, Job Group ‘P’, for a minimum period of three (3) years;
  2. Be in possession of a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) degree from a recognized institution;
  3. Have a Master of Science degree in any of the following disciplines:- Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Surgery, Livestock Economics, Forensic Science, Animal Nutrition and Feed Sciences, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Clinical Studies, Veterinary Public Health, Livestock Production Systems, Poultry Science, Veterinary Anatomy, Reproductive Biology, Veterinary Pathology and Microbiology, Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Diagnosis, Fish Science, Apiary Science, Public Health, Applied Veterinary Parasitology, Applied Microbiology, Comparative Mammalian Physiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Wildlife Health and Management, Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics, Animal Production or Aquatic Sciences from a recognized institution will be an added advantage;
  4. Have Certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution
  5. Registered by Kenya Veterinary Board;
  6. Have Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution;
  7. Certificate in computer applications from s recognized institution; and
  8. Have shown outstanding administrative capability and professional competence required in managing Veterinary Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Organizing disease search, investigations, monitoring and mapping;
  2. Evaluating request documents and making appropriate recommendations;
  3. Carrying out investigations on antimicrobial and acaricidal resistance;
  4. Coordinating programmes on the control and eradication of epizootic and diseases and pests;
  5. Undertaking postmortem examination and other diagnostic tests;
  6. Interpreting laboratory results and making appropriate recommendations;
  7. Organising stakeholders’ training, seminars, workshops, field days, shows, exhibitions, conferences on vector control programmes, animal health, breeding, welfare and good veterinary practices;
  8. Compiling technical reports;
  9. Leading team(s) in inspecting, grading and licensing plants processing animal products and transport carriers/containers;
  10. Enforcing food safety and quality assurance regulations in slaughter houses and other animal products processing plants;
  11. Issuing animal health certificates
  12. Planning field efficacy trials for drugs, vaccines and acaricides;
  13. Disseminating information on animal health, products and markets;
  14. Collaborating with stakeholders in providing veterinary services; and
  15. Undertaking forensic investigations and compiling appropriate reports;

Candidates should complete one Kitui County Public Service Board 2 (KCPSB 2) (revised 2025) application form. The completed KCPSB 2 (revised 2025) form, together with certified copies of applicant’s National Identity Card, Academic certificates and transcripts, professional certificates and licenses (where applicable), letters of appointment, confirmation, re-designation and/or promotion to the current post should be uploaded to the Kitui County Public Service Board jobs portal on or before Wednesday 11th February, 2026.

  2. The KCPSB 2 and KCPSB 2A (revised 2025) forms are also available in the County Government website.
  3. Applicants should provide all the details requested for in the advertisement. It is an offence to include incorrect information in the application. Details of academic and professional certificates not obtained by closure of the advert should not be included.
  4. Only short listed and successful candidates will be contacted.
