The Inter-State School of Veterinary Sciences and Medicine (EISMV) in Dakar recently held its 27th solemn opening ceremony on the theme: « Agriculture in Africa in the face of health and environmental challenges in a context of climate change. »

This prestigious event was presided over by Professor Jean-Laurent SYSSA-MAGALE, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Technological Innovation of the Central African Republic.

The day was marked by a panel discussion led by high-level experts, including:

  1. Madam Madeleine DIOUF SARR, Director of Environment and Classified Establishments in Senegal: « Climate Change and Agriculture in Africa: Current Impacts and Projections. »

2. Dr. Robert GUEI, from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations: « Agriculture and Health and Environmental Challenges: Issues and Opportunities. »

3. Mr. Ollo SIB, from the World Food Programme (WFP): « Agriculture and Food Security: Issues and Opportunities. »

4. Dr. Assane GUEYE FALL, from the Senegalese Institute of Agricultural Research (ISRA): « Agriculture and Gender: Some Success Stories in Addressing Health and Environmental Challenges. »

This event was also an opportunity for the regional institution, founded in 1968, to honor deserving staff members. Dr. Bitsha-Kitime Dieudoné KABKIA, a Teacher-Researcher, was awarded by the EISMV for his outstanding contributions to the school’s reputation. Mr. Alassane DIA was honored for his significant contribution to the establishment of the Veterinary Clinical Simulation Laboratory, while Ms. Dieynaba Angele DRABO was recognized for her dedicated and loyal services before her retirement.

This solemn opening ceremony highlighted the crucial importance of addressing the health and environmental challenges faced by African agriculture, particularly in the context of climate change. The event brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss the current impacts, future projections, and opportunities for sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

The 27th solemn opening ceremony of the EISMV marked the significant occasion of inaugurating the Veterinary Clinical Simulation Laboratory. This new facility provides students with the opportunity to learn through the repetition of technical procedures, placing them in care situations that closely resemble reality, without any risk to animals. With this laboratory, students can enhance their skills by adopting caring postures through the analysis of their practice. This new tool will contribute to improving their clinical reasoning abilities, decision-making skills, manual dexterity, self-confidence, interdisciplinary teamwork, as well as their relationships with patients.

The EISMV remains committed to its mission of training qualified veterinary and medical professionals who are capable of addressing the complex challenges affecting agriculture and veterinary sciences in Africa.
