ILRI : Research Officer – One Health Initiative

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Research Officer to lead fieldwork for a study to develop and test an intervention to improve hygiene practices in slaughter facilities in rural Western Kenya.  The study will consist of qualitative scoping work and a randomized controlled trial.


ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct key informant interviews
  • Thematic analysis of qualitative data
  • Contribute to design of hygiene intervention in slaughterhouses
  • Coordinate field team and manage enumerators
  • Monitor data collection and quality
  • Manage project resources and budgets
  • Prepare reports

Requirements

  • MSc degree in (Public health, Biomedical science, Anthropology, or similar)
  • Three years (3)  of experience in a related or similar position
  • Field work experience in Kenya (western Kenya desirable)
  • Field work experience, particularly on One Health projects
  • Collection of qualitative and quantitative data
  • Experience with Open Data Kit (ODK) or similar software
  • Analysis of qualitative data
  • Management of field teams
  • Management of field budgets
  • Report writing and oral presentations

Post location: The position will be based in Busia

Terms of Appointment This position is at job level HG 13. The position is 2 years contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes pension, medical and other insurances
