ILRI Jobs : Research Associate III

International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Research associate to assist the Policy Engagement Specialist with the operations of the policy theme within the Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project as well as the Kenya country activities of the One CGIAR initiative on Low Emission Food Systems (Mitigate+)

ILRI works to improve food security and nutrition and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 11 CGIAR research centers dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, ILRI has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Play a supporting role in the implementation of activities under AICCRA Theme 1 (Policies and Priorities for Climate Smart Agriculture), including helping to organize meetings with national and regional partners such as the African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES) and Eastern African Farmers Federation to support implementation of joint activities such as building capacity of climate change negotiators and co-developing knowledge products to support climate negotiations
  • Contribute to the writing of AICCRA Theme 1 publications, including info notes, journal articles and other outreach products
  • Assist with AICCRA Theme 1 monitoring, evaluation and reporting
  • Support coordination of Kenya country activities of the Low Emissions Food System initiative (Mitigate+)
  • Contribute to stakeholder engagement processes for the Low Emissions Food System Initiative (Mitigate+) in Kenya through organizing workshops, inviting attendees, facilitating breakout discussions and contributing to writing workshop output reports
  • Support resource mobilization efforts with background research and contributing to proposal writing
  • Perform any other related duties as may be assigned

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in agriculture, animal science, climate change or other relevant field
  • At least five years’ experience
  • Theoretical background in climate impacts on agriculture and food systems
  • Experience and knowledge in Kenya stakeholder engagement processes
  • Good computer skills in Excel, Word, Power Point and Teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task as needed, consistently meet deadlines and manage time.

Position Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Terms of Appointment

This position is at job level HG12 and it is only open to Kenyan nationals. The position is a 3-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes pension, medical and other insurances.
