Call for Peer Reviewers : Join the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education

Peer reviewers play an integral part in the success of scholarly publishing. Their anonymous feedback not only ensures that articles published in the journal are of high academic quality, are relevant to the journal mandate and make a positive contribution to the field, but they also provide professional development to the authors contributing to the journal.

Journal of Veterinary Medical Education is seeking knowledgeable and conscientious peer reviewers who will provide fair and objective manuscript reviews with quick turnaround time for feedback to authors. The role of these individuals is to independently review and critique manuscripts using the JVME Peer Review system, https://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/jvme. Current knowledge of recently published veterinary education research is essential. JVME reviewers should have experience as authors of articles published in peer-reviewed journals. Individuals who have not yet published are invited to join as apprentice reviewers, and will be paired with more experienced mentors. Previously published JMVE authors are highly encouraged to apply to be peer reviewers. We especially encourage members of underrepresented groups to participate in the peer review process. Reviewers will be acknowledged in the print edition of JVME and receive a certificate of appreciation.

JVME publishes both individual submissions and commissioned papers. Individual submissions are encouraged in any area pertinent to veterinary education. JVME also welcomes reports from other areas of health sciences education that may be pertinent to veterinary education. Author-initiated manuscripts are subject to review by two or more independent reviewers. Reviewers are guided in their review with the use of a reviewer score sheet, designed and tailored for each type of manuscript.

To become a reviewer for JVME, please sign up here. The “Field(s) of Expertise” section is important as it will help us select manuscripts that best fit with your fields of expertise. Once we receive your information, we will contact you with a login link and information for the submission site for the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education.

If you are already a reviewer and would like to update your information, please visit https://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/jvme and enter your login name and password to retrieve your account. If you have forgotten your login or password, click on the “Reset Password” link to retrieve your account information.

If you have any further questions or concerns about this process, please e-mail us at jvme@aavmc.org.

Journal of Veterinary Medical Education

“The pace of innovation and change in modern veterinary medical education has never been greater and the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education is a unique resource for the sharing and dissemination of that new knowledge.” Dr. Daryl Buss, former JVME Editor-in-Chief

The Journal of Veterinary Medical Education (JVME) is the peer-reviewed scholarly journal of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC). As an internationally distributed journal, JVME provides a forum for the exchange of ideas, research, and discoveries about veterinary medical education. This exchange benefits veterinary faculty, students, and the veterinary profession as a whole by preparing veterinarians to better perform their professional activities and to meet the needs of society.

The journal’s areas of focus include best practices and educational methods in veterinary education; recruitment, training, and mentoring of students at all levels of education, including undergraduate, graduate, veterinary technology, and continuing education; clinical instruction and assessment; institutional policy; and other challenges and issues faced by veterinary educators domestically and internationally. Veterinary faculty of all countries are encouraged to participate as contributors, reviewers, and institutional representatives.

JVME publishes 6 issues per year. To expand access to important developments in veterinary medical education and amplify its global reach to veterinary medical practitioners, educators, researchers, prospective and current veterinary medical students, the journal employs a hybrid print and online publishing model which incorporates open access of all published content with a rolling 12-month embargo on new issues.
