The 3rd Edition of the Africa Health Tech Summit (#AHTS2024) in Kigali, Rwanda, saw AU-IBAR, GIZ, and Africa CDC come together to co-host a groundbreaking session on “Emerging Digital Technology Trends as a Driver of One Health.” The session, held on October 30, brought together a wide range of African stakeholders to explore the potential of digital technologies in advancing One Health across the continent.
This session fostered a collaborative space for Member States, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and African institutions, all of whom voiced their commitment to harness emerging, data-driven technologies to strengthen One Health data governance and management. The African Union Digital One Health Platform, hosted by AU-IBAR, stands at the forefront of this ambitious vision, set to be a pioneering model in cross-sectoral digital health.
High-level delegates were in attendance, reflecting the session’s significance and the commitment to a shared health future for Africa. Notable figures included the Deputy Minister of Health from Malawi, the Deputy Minister of ICT from Uganda, and a representative from the Ministry of Health in Cameroon. Their presence underscored the growing recognition of digital technology as an essential driver for health governance, surveillance, and response.
The collaborative spirit and high-level endorsement at #AHTS2024 have highlighted a united vision: to leverage digital solutions that support the health and well-being of communities, animals, and environments across Africa. Together, these initiatives are shaping a future where data and technology empower One Health frameworks, transforming health outcomes for all.
